The Importance of Choosing an ASME Certified Company

Design of pressure vessel concept- in oil and gas industry

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers plays a critical role in the success of many engineering organizations around the world. Just like many other industries, certain organizations within the industry set quality and safety standards. Businesses that meet these standards are deemed quality leaders in their industry. Why would you want your engineering company to be any different Today, we are going to discuss the importance of choosing an ASME certified company and why you should strive to partner with a business that meets these strict standards. Heartland Repair & Coatings (HRC) holds several ASME certifications. Contact us to learn more.

What is ASME?

ASME stands for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This historical organization has been around since 1880 and aims to help the global engineering community develop innovative and effective solutions to real-world problems.

The ASME strives for both education and skills development via:

  • codes and standards,
  • certifications,
  • conferences,
  • publications,
  • government relations, and
  • more.

This not-for-profit membership organization is the leading professional mechanical engineering organization in the world. Its history and reputation in regulating potentially dangerous and everyday equipment have earned the organization the honor of being considered the gold medal standard in the industry.

Codes and Standards

ASME certified

The ASME offers several different certifications for its various codes and standards. A company can choose to specialize in one or more of these areas of expertise depending on the services it offers.

Just a few of these codes and standards include:

  • Mobile and Locomotive Cranes
  • ASME BPVC Section IX-Welding, Brazing, and Fusing
  • Process Piping
  • Engineering Drawing Practices
  • Handbook on Safety Codes for Elevators and Escalators
  • Power Piping
  • Rigging Hardware
  • Refrigeration Piping and Heat Transfer Components

These are just a few of the hundreds of codes and standards that ASME offers certifications in. Someone can become individually certified, or a company can strive to have all of their hired professionals meet these standards through the CA Connect online application

Additionally, ASME offers many different discounts, including their college program, which gets first-year students an ASME membership free for their first year.

Why is an ASME Certification Important?

If you’re looking for a trustworthy, reliable engineering company to work with, it’s best to choose one that is ASME certified. Why? We can take a closer look at that answer below.

You Can Expect ASME Quality

The ASME has a strong reputation for its dedication to quality. In turn, that means any company that is ASME certified has received the stamp of approval regarding the quality of their products and services.

When a company is ASME certified, it shows potential clients and customers that they care about the quality of their work and products. The company lives up to the high standards set by the ASME, and that’s something your business will be proud to advertise.

Any ASME-certified company must meet all of the ASME’s standards, both within their products and across the company as a whole. Since the ASME has been around for so long, you know their processes have withstood the test of time.

You Can Expect ASME Safety

Quality is high on the list of importance at the ASME, but safety is right up there with it. Any company that is ASME certified also meets the incredibly high standards that the ASME puts on safety.

So, an ASME-certified company only offers products that meet specific safety codes and standards. When you’re working with equipment like a boiler and pressure vessels, safety is extremely important.

It’s always best to work with an engineering company that places the same value on safety that the experts do. You can place confidence in the work being done, and the equipment being used by certificate holders is, without a doubt, the safest possible.

You Can Expect Consistency

The ASME is a global organization. Their engineering codes are used and accepted in more than 100 countries.

Working with an ASME-certified company means engineers and facilities are meeting standards for consistent fabrication. Because ASME is a global organization, you can look for businesses to adhere to these standards in the international market as well.

We’re not saying you should do everything simply because everyone else is doing it, but when it comes to the engineering industry, it’s safe to get on board with ASME-certified businesses.

You Can Trust the Organization at Large

The ASME certification process doesn’t just apply to a company in general. Instead, every mechanical engineer and other professional within the company must meet these standards.

Pair that level of attention to detail with ASME’s 100+ years of experience, and it makes for a pretty trustworthy environment. These standards are rigorous and not necessarily easily obtainable. So if a company has successfully received one or more of the ASME certifications, you know that they are a high-quality company.

What Certifications Does HRC Hold, and What Do They Allow Them To Do?

Heartland Repair & Coatings ASME certificates

Heartland Repair & Coatings holds three significant certifications. They are:

  • ASME U Stamp
  • NBBI R Stamp
  • NBBI NB Stamp

The U Stamp, R Stamp, and NB Stamp certifications all give HRC the ability to denote that their products have been built in strict accordance with ASME requirements.

The U Stamp is an ASME certification program for Unfired Pressure Vessels. It indicates that the company followed all ASME guidelines for the pressure vessel’s design, construction, and testing.

The R Stamp comes from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and indicates that they are certified to conduct repairs and alterations on pressure-retaining items.

The NB Stamp is also associated with the NBBI and allows HRC to place the NB stamp on pressure relief devices. This stamp proves that these items have been inspected by the National Board and built to required standards.
